Kshudiram Basu (1972)
Kshudiram Basu will always be remembered as an immortal martyr in the history of freedom struggle in India. He sacrificed his life at a tender age. A statue of this leave son of Bengal was made under the patronage of the Government of Bengal in his honour. Subodh Bandopaddhay, the minister in charge of Public Wks. Deptt. of the second United Front Government in West Bengal, took the initiative to put up the statue of Kshudiram at the place where earlier stood the statue of Lord Auckland. It was sculpted by Tapas Dutta.
Rabindranath Tagore (3rd statue, 1975)
The third effigy of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was put up in Calcutta after thirty four years of his demise. It was sculpted under the patronage of the C.M.D.A. This statue is ensconced in the premises of the Rabindra Sadan in Calcutta. It was made by Kartick Chandra Pal, a renowned sculptor and clay-artist.
Sri Aurobindo (1975)
Lord Curzon's statue in Calcutta was replaced by that of Aurobindo Ghosh. However, the earlier bronze statue of Lord Curzon stood facing the Victoria Memorial whereas the statue of Aurobindo Ghosh faces the Maidani. It was sculpted by Hrishikesh Dasgupta.
Bankim Chandra Chattopaddhay (1976)
In the decade of the seventies, a full-length statue of Bankim Chandra Chattopaddhay was ereeted in Calcutta under the patronay of the West Bengal Government. Before this, no attempt had been made to preserve the memory of the great litterature. His effigy was sculpted by Cnintamoni Kar.
Surya Sen (1976)
Surya Sen, better known as 'Master Da' was the pivotal figure behind the gory freedom struggle in Chattagram of Bangladesh. His statue was put up in Calcutta to presowe his sacred memory. The full-length statue of Surya Sen is ensconced in front of the 'grand-entrance' of the Calcutta High Court. It was sculpted by Ramesh Chandra Pal.
Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy (1st statue, 1976)
The first full-length statue of Bidhan Chandra Roy, the outstanding physician and the most illustrious chief minister of West Bengal, was put up in front of the Bidhan Sishu Udyan. This effigy, ensconced at the junction of V.I.P. Road and Bidhan Sishu Sarani, was sculpted by Sunil Pal.
Swami Vivekananda (2nd statue, 1977)
The second effigy of Swami Vivekananda was put up on the South-West corner of the victoria Memorial at the junction of Hospital Road and Acharya Jagadish Chandra Basu Road. This statue was sculpted by the Public Works Department of the Government of West Bengal.
Matangini Hazra (1977)
The first full-length statue of a lady, put up at the junction of Red Road and Guru Nanak Road, was that of Matangini Hazra the fire-brand lady from Midnapore, who sacrified her life in the freedom-struggle. It was sculpted by Ramesh Chandra Pal.
Rani Rasmoni (2nd statue, 1978)
Although a statue of Queen Rasmoni was erected earlier in Dakshineswar outside the Bhavatarini Temple, there was no statue of queen Rashmoni was put up at Surendranath Park in Esplanade. It is ensconced on the western side of the statue of 'Rashtra Guru' Surendranath Bandopaddhay. This statue was sculpted by Mukti Pal of Krishnanagar.
Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy (2nd statue, 1978)
The second statue of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was put up in the B.B.D. Bag area of Calcutta facing the Writters' Building. Under the patronage of the West Bengal Government, this statue was sculpted by none other than Ramesh Chandra Pal.
