Science City is a bright feather in the hat of Calcutta. The city is justifiably proud of it which draws hundreds of knowledge thirsty tourists everyday. Calcutta had never witnessed before such an ecstatic mingling of adventure, fun and knowledge.
The Science City of Calcutta is the only one of its kind in Asia. Located at the intersection of the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and the Park Circus connector, this 21st century marval of science and technology is ideal for imparting scientific knowledge in a natural ambience, far away from the stinking laboratories and the monotony of the text books. This Science Park, an astounding creation of NCSM hogs the attention of the people because of its sylvan surroundings. Inside are trees and lawns with abundant scope to learn and discover in the open air. The salient features of Science City can be classified as follows:

Convention Centre Complex: 
The Convention Centre Complex comprises a big auditorium with a capacity of 2215 persons along with a tiny auditorium with a capacity of 400 persons. There are eight seminar halls of different capacities and are fully equipped with simultaneous translation system and audio visual systems. Excellent catering services are available in the lounge. Telephone, fax and secretarial facilities are also available in the Convention Centre Complex.

Dynamotion: 
Here, is available several interactive exhibits on mathematics, physics, chemistry, geography, mechanics and environment for enriching the knowledge of the masses.

Energy Ball: 
By dint of this big exhibit, the principle of conversion of energy is displayed by balls rolling down loops and bends.

Space Theatre: 
Space Theatre is a spectacular device where one can enjoy the thrilling experience of sailing into the outer space, for probing into the extra-terrestrial life in the universe which has always been a subject of keen human interest. The tilted dome theatre has a capacity of 360 people where they can derive exciting pleasure from the Astrovision, combined with Universum. At the Space Theatre, you could go out on a daring safari in the dense Serengeti Reserve Forest which abounds in wild leasts. A flashback of the city of joy is surely a thrilling experience. In fact, this Space Theatre is the only one in India and even the first one of its kind outside Japan.

Time Machine: 
Time Machine is another astonishing wonder of science by dint of which one can travel back in time. To be precise, it is simulated journey through space or going back by crossing the gates of time. Hereby, one can take a mystical journey to Egypt, the land of the pyramids and the Nile, adventures in cyberspace, battle zones etc.

Apart from these, there is a huge collection of birds and insects. There are also life size models of dinosaurs and a realistic representation of the interier of a volcano. There are also simultanious of natural phenomena like tornadoes, earthquakes, quicksands. Then there is the Garden of Smells which emits different types of fragrances. People can distinguish the smells by pressing respective buttons.
Another section the world of insects and reptiles is very informative. Its a wonderful world with monnted specimens, splendid aquariums housing gold fish, Alvino Shark and several other aquatic creatures. The bright corals and the soothing flora and fauna are a delight to the beholders. Natural phenomena and the laws of motion are elucidated through mechanical gadgets.
There are also dpinning platform, musical fountain, demarcated area for picnic and other facilities etc. Indeed, Calcutta of the new millennium is totally incomplete without Science City. It is open everyday including Sundays and all public holidays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
