In the sphere of Indian dance, the name of Tanusreesankar has been imprinted with an indelible ink. She is not only a true and competent successor of the Udaysankar 'gharana' of dance but has made invaluable contribution to embellish and popularize it all over the globe. At a very tender age, Tanusree stepped into the world of dance. She was a sincere and devoted student under the tutelage of Lady Amalasankar, the spouse of Udaysankar, Tanusree blossomed as a promising dancer of the 'Sankar' gharana or style.

While a student, Tanusree met Anandasankar and were both struck by Cupid. She was very fond of Ananda's music which inspired her to bring more colours to her dance. They complemented each other in a unique way and her dance made a perfect synchronization with his music. Soon, they tied the nuptial knot which marked the begining of a glorious era in Indian music and dance.

As the daughter-in-law of Udaysankar and the consort of Anandasankar, the onus of preserving and amcliorating the 'sankar' gharana of dance was developed on Tanusreesankar. Today, Tanusree is one of the leading choreographers in India. With her innovative genius and originality, she has given birth to a novel and spectacular dance form. The subject and content of Tanusree's dance has always played a significant role. Her dance conspicuonsly bears the message but is never overshadowed by the influence of Indian classical dance or folk dance.

Tanusree's dances are marked for their ingenuity, originality, freshness and aesthetic value. These dances essentially follow the message of her dance-dramas and help in portraying the characters and incidents in a vivacions manner. Heroin lies the success of Tanusree's dance and choreography.

As an ace dancer and choreographer Tanusree has delivered some incredible dance performances as 'Nabayug,' 'Atmodoy,' 'Mriganayani,' 'Fragrance,' 'Temptation,' 'Ahimsa,' 'Buddhibijaya' etc. All these dances have been highly appreciated all over the globe.

Tanusreesankar had immense talent which was manifested not only in music and dance but in other spheres as well. She had also acted in 'Dui Prithibi,' a film starring Uttam Kumar and Victor Banerjee which proved her prowess as an actress.
