Manjulika Roychowdhury is a universally respected name in the sphere of dance in Bengal. She was born on 20th November, 1930. She is an M.A. from the Calcutta University and relishes the honour of being the first woman to have received the prestigious doctorate in dance from the Rabindra Bharati University.
Manjulika was a former professor in the Rabindra Bharati University. In her hey days, she was much more than just an excellent dancer. She is an authority in Katthak dance and has explored its domain for more than four decades.
Dr. Manjulika is linked as a dance teacher with several institutions. She was a former head of the department of dance in the Birla Academy. She is also the founder of 'Chhanda Bharati.' She has worked as a choreographer with the C.L.T. (Children's Little Theatre) as well. She was regular dance artist in the Doordarshan and became one of the leading members in the panel of experts. She learnt the art of dance from renowned teachers. Dr. Manjulika is the author of the book 'The Art of Hindu Dance' which is a precions guide and asset to the aspiring students of dance. Besides performing with eclat in several dance festivals all over India, she has also acted as an examiner in different institutions at different times.
