Dramatization Of Novels

Several ageless novels have been wonderfully dramatized and as such are more than relevant to the world of drama or theatre. The immortal wizard of Bengali novels and a household name in Bengal – Sri Sarat Chandra Chattopaddhaya, has gifted us with some ethereal works which have been dramatized at different times. Some of the spectacular ones which were dramatized by Sri. Deb Narayan Gupta are 'Ramer Sumati', 'Bindur Chhele', 'Anupamar Prem', 'Nishkriti', 'Kashinath', 'Parineeta', 'Srikanta' etc. The renowned Star Theatre had hosted the dramatized version of the unique novel 'Ekak-Dashak-Satak' by Bimal Mitra.

Tarashankar himself, had dramatized some of his novels viz. 'Kabi', 'Arogya Niketan' etc. Au reste, 'Saheb-Bibi-Gulam', the unique novel of Bimal Mitra, had been dexterously dramatized by Sachin Sengupta. Sri. Jyoti Bandopaddhaya had converted 'LankaKapat' by Jarashandha into its dramatized version. Similarly, Sri. Barun Dasgupta had converted Samaresh Basu's 'Aborto' into a wonderful drama for the stage. Sri. Mani Dutta had done a scintillating work by dramatizing Smt. Asha Purna Devi's 'Sashi Babur Sangsar' – a sui generis novel by its own right.
