INCOME TAX
In order to meet the budget deficit of RS. 2.5 crores, the British Government imposed the income-tax on 1st April, 1869, at a rate of 1%. The then Governor General Lord Mayo, introduced it as a temporary arrangement. In 1886, Governor General Lord Duffrin enacted the Income-Tax Bill as a permanent arrangement. The process still continues. 

IRON BRIDGE
On 1st June,1822, the bridge measuring 141ft. in length and 4 ft. in width, was inaugurated. This was the first iron bridge of India built over the Kalighat canal.

ICE MACHINE
Around 1775, there emerged a huge shop at Bankshal Street which sold ice. In 1833, the ice-machine came to Calcutta from U.S.A.
