FEMALE ENGINEER
The first female engineer in India was Ms. Ila Mazumdar from Calcutta. She emerged as an honours graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Shibpur Bengal Engineering College in 1951.

FOOTPATH
In 1858, the first footpath was built in Calcutta beside the Chowringhee Road. It was built to ensure safety of the pedestrians as there was a tremendous rise in the number of motor vehicles in Calcutta.

FOOTBALL MATCH
The first football match in Calcutta was probably played in 1868.

FIRST LADY PILOT
Sushma Mukhopaddhaya was the first female member of the Bengal Flying Club. She has the honour of being the first lady pilot of India.

FEMALE STATUE
The first female statue put up in Calcutta, was of the formidable lady Matangini Hazra in 1977.
