AUTOMOBILE  ASSOCIATION
The first Automobile Association in India was established at Calcutta in 1904. It was then known as 'The Automobile Association of Bengal'. Today it is branded as 'Automobile Association of India'. It was launched with 60 motor vehicles merely. It fixed the maximum speed of vehicles at 20 miles per hour. This association took the initiative to organize the first motor car rally in India on 28th August the same year. The rally covered the path between Calcutta to Barrackpore. Eleven motor cars and four motor cycles participated in the contest. Ms. Ackatoma, a bold and graceful lady, had also taken part in the first rally. 

ALIPORE BAR ASSOCIATION
Long after the establishment of the British Empire and the foundation of the European Judicial System, the first Bar Association in India was formed in Calcutta at Alipore in the year 1857.

AMBULANCE
St. John Ambulance Association introduced the ambulance in Calcutta in 1910. Two separate Ambulance Brigades were formed with male and female members. This was but a branch of the original St. John Ambulance Association which started in U.K. in 1887. After the 1st World War, an organization named 'Bengali Ambulance Corp' was formed at Calcutta. It did a fantastic job in serving the ailing and injured soldiers in West Asia as well as shifting them to safer nooks. 

AIR RAIDS 
The Japanese Air-Force first laid air-raids in Calcutta on 20th Dec,1942. On 5th Dec,1943, incendiaries were dropped from a Japanese aircraft on Calcutta in the diurnal hours.
